"Kovács is niet zoveel minder dan Meerdink"

AZ won in the Europa League 0-4 away against Ararat Armenia. Bendegúz Kovács started in attack, while Mexx Meerdink came on as a substitute and scored. Valdemar Byskov also impressed in an earlier match against Hapoel Beer Sheva, which helped explain coach Leeroy Echteld’s choice for Kovács.

Analysts Alex Pastoor and Jan van Halst discussed the competition between the young attackers on Ziggo Sport. Pastoor praised Kovács for his strength, goal threat and ability to keep the ball, while noting that both players still have considerable potential. He suggested that Meerdink, like Kees Smit, may be feeling the pressure of intense media attention and positive publicity. Van Halst said Kovács may not be far behind Meerdink in quality.
